I am ready to post up some photos but I'm not sure which photo hosting company to use. I did a search but could not find anything initially.

Lots of people use flickr but after reading reviews, seems a bit marmite, so what are the good and bad points of the hosting company you use ?

I've just started to use flickr but I find it quite difficult to use, for some reason I don't get the same homepage as everyone else and find it's a pain trying to get to my pictures. Photobucket is a lot easier to use but the quality of the images don't seem to load on websites as good as the flickr ones. Just my 2p's worth.

Steve, what'll be your main purpose in posting photos?

What do you see if you don't see what the rest of us do?

Probably help if you could post a screenshot so we can see what you see

I just want to upload a few photos to share and for you guys to critique, i'm no pro but a keen amateur !

at this point, I don't think I'll need more than 500mbs

I see the log-in page and after I've logged in nothing changes I still only see the log-in page (the one that says smile you have one terabite) although I am logged in. To get to my photostream page I have to click on upload from the above page and only then do I get to a page with "you" option I can then get to my photostream. My daughter gets the page with the "you" option as soon as she logs in.

This is the screen I get.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread somewhat.

That grab shows that you're not logged in ?

Try clearing out your temp files using C Cleaner

Phil, I am logged in, that is the problem. That is the screen I get even after my log-in details have been accepted. You will see an "upload" tab to the top right of that screen, if I click on that I am then taken to the screen that offers a "you" tab in the top left of the screen , if I then click on the "you" tab I am taken to a screen that allows me to get to my photostream. After that I have no problem, it's just such a long winded way of getting to my home page. I have tried C Cleaner, Window Washer, Malware Bytes, Spybot, the lot, and nothing makes any difference.

Not a lot to choose between either imho.

there's a windows 8 app that integrates flickr into the desktop ... giving it a go today

i think flickr is the right way to go, I've not had any problems with it yet and seems ok to use.

So what happens once you get to your photostream and then save that page to favourites?

Rich,
That works a lot better, after doing as you suggested the site opens with my photostream page. The funny thing now is I don't have to log in to do things like grabbing the BB code etc. but if I want to upload new photo's it ask's me for my log-in details, is this the way it should work? Thanks for your help.

I leave my computer on all the time and keep myself signed in all the time so I don't have to sign back in to access the BB code etc or to even upload pics. Flickr does have a maximum time allowed and occasionally I will need to login again and if the computer does restart after updates etc.

I've finally got used to the 'photostream' page now but if you press 'edit' just above the photos you can see all the details for each photo and access the old home page layout. I've got a pro account at the moment but will probably allow it to lapse when it comes time to renew now that everyone gets a terrabyte to use.

Depends on what you want from the sharing. If its simply a place to store then Flickr or Picasa are simple storage options.

Flickr has had a revamp but still way behind what is now expected and available. Something like 500px is a great resource and place to share. I originally had a Flickr account, but moved it to 500px as I believe the quality and look is much better.

Google+ does a great job of showing off your work, but only really used by photographers, good or bad thing?!

Flickr and my own Web site

Flickr is a good hosting site - for use when posting images in an internet forum

Les ;)
