Which lens?

Morning folks,

I'm for buying myself a new telephoto lens within the next few weeks for mainly birdie shots. I'm currently shooting with a Sony Alpha A330 and want to upgrade from my Tamron 70-300mm. Any hints or tips on what to go for? I have about 300 quid or maybe a bit more to spend,

I got the (deep breath) Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD recently and am pretty happy with it so far, £339 from Jessops (they price matched Bristol Cameras for me, although Exeter is a lot closer to Bristol than Co. Antrim). It's sharper than the canon equivalent and the IS seems a bit better too.

I've just realised that Sony's have IS built in, so the sony version doesn't have it, but the rest of the post is still true.
