Which lens?

I was recomended this site for someone on here.
Has anyone bought anything from the site before? Is it safe to buy from them?
I was looking at the two lenses below, could someone give me advice on which one to get (if any!) as they're both the same to me!
From what i have read they will both fit my Nikon D40?

I've bought from Ffordes. Great shop, very friendly and helpful, good customer service.

The first lens you've linked is described as a Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 D. Assuming that this is a Nikon mount (it's impossible to say from the link you've provided) then it will physically fit on a D40 but will probably not autofocus.

The second lens you've linked is described as a Nikon 70-300mm F4-5.6 AFG. This will physically fit on a D40 but will not autofocus.

If you want a lens to autofocus on a D40, you need a Nikon lens with AF-S in its name (not AF or AF-D), or you want a Sigma lens with HSM in its name. There are probably Tamron and Tokina lenses which will work too, but I don't know what letters to look for there.

it might be worth your while looking through the shops listed here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=30638 and searching for lenses marked AF-S or HSM as Stewart said.
