I'm looking to hire a lens for my daughters christening in coupler of months but need a little help deciding which one to go for. I shall most likely be hiring from Lensesforhire.co.uk for no other reason than they are local so I can pick up without the extra postage hassles/costs. I will be using the lens on my 50d and I have narrowed down to 17-55 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8L, 24-105 f4L, what are thoughts on these lenses with my camera for a christening, or any other choices?
Thanks

17-55 2.8 would be my choice, followed by/replaced with some faster primes 35/50mm. You'll need the low light abilities and the DoF will be nice with the primes too...

Agree with the above. f2.8 will be useful indoors, but 24mm on a crop might limit you if you want quite wide shots? Depends on the venue size & what you want to achieve. I had my 24-70 on a 40D and it was great.

You might find the IS useful too (which the 24->70 doesn't have). People generally don't move much at christenings so it might help you get a few extra shots...

I am leaning more towards the 17-55 due to the wider end, the L's are hard to ignore though. I will also be taking my 35mm f2.0 for indoor shots.

Depends on the venue and day. I was at a Christening as a friend the other day and had to up my D300 to 1600 ISO to keep shutter at 1/60 to shoot at f/2.8. Previous time I used my 50mm which was more restrictive as moving is needed but going to f/2, or f/1.4 really did help. I would take a 50mm 1.4.

It's going to be a small local church, nothing fancy in early July. I'm not keen on 50mm really I always found it a bit too close, I seem to be in a minority with that viewpoint though! ;)
The 16-35mm f2.8L has also caught my eye, my 35mm prime is rarely off my camera so zooming closer won't be too much of an issue really as I can always move myself.

Get a 30mm f1.4 then.

Not much different from my 35mm prime in terms of versatility, i need the option to go wider hence needing a zoom lens. The 24mm 1.4f is tempting too but too limiting I think.
