I have been recommended the Nikon 35mm 1.8 and the nikon 50mm 1.4, which is better for gig photography. I am swaying towards the 35mm mainly because its cheaper and i dont have a lot of money. Also i have a Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DX VR Lens unused that i want to sell towards purchsing one of the above lenses, how much could i get for it and where is it best to sell it?

the 35mm will probably be a bit short for gig photography if im honest, depending on the venue and how close you can get of course - even on crop id still aim for 50mm+

maybe take a look at the 85mm f/1.8? not sure if thats got a built in motor though, which obviously would be useless for gigs if it doesnt

+1

It does indeed depend on the venue. If its up close and personal pub gigs etc, youll struggle to get anything more than head/shoulders in frame with 50mm on a crop body.

It doesnt, you'd need the AF-S f/1.4 version

depends what sort of gig and your location - if your up close something like the 10.5/2.8 nikon could give some great images. if you're out the back you'll need the opposite and a long telephoto !
