This might be a stupid question, but I have just bagged me a second hand Canon EOS 350D.

I'm in the market for a lens to enable me to take some fabulous gig shots, and wondered which one would be best to get. Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks.

Not always a lot of light at gigs so something with a large aperture to get more light in. 50mm 1.8 is the obvious cheap option.

There have been similar questions asked before. I just tried a search for> gig lens < and found quite a few threads.

Nifty fifty as Rob says is probably yr best and by far cheapest bet.
Theres a pretty good revivew of it on here in... the reviews section of course

I'd agree re Nifty Fifty, but that is very dependant on where you are able to stand for the shots. A f2.8 zoom is more useful, one that is wide enough to get full band shots and the zoom bit for closeups. I don't know enough to be able to specify actual lenses........try Catdaddy or Petemc. No doubt they will be along soon!
Send me an invite if you are going anywhere central to us both, I need to get out to gigs again. Lost my confidence a bit.

If you've got the pocket depth.. then the EFS 17-55 f2.8 is an excellent lens, if pricy.
I just got one and am very happy with it.

I'd go along with this - on the 350 it will give you just about enough flexibility from close range. If you're going to be forced to stand part way back, you'll be wanting something with a little more reach.......

I'll be at the Robin 2 on Thurs night, and the Flowerpot in Derby on Saturday, if you want to join me...

It's Skinny Molly www.skinnymolly.com Chris (Catdaddy) plays guitar with them.

Thanks for all the advice everyone...looks like it's a nifty then...
