Hi,

i'm going to by another lens, i've only been into photography for a year or so and have a nikon D3100 with the kit lens 18-55mm, i also bought a cheapish Sigma 70-300 as i love wildlife.....

i'm really starting to understand it properly now and have bought some flash gear, a YN560 mk2, triggers, a flash bender along with tripod.....i really want to get into portrait photography but also love night photography and the night sky and landscape.....

i only have a budget of around 200 quid and i'm edging towards the 35mm f/1.8 or the 50 f/1.8....i'm thinking the 35mm may suit me better as understand with not having a full frame camera it would equate to the 50mm anyway and would capture more of the night sky.....is there another lens i should be considering?

your advice would be very much appreciated

cheers jez

It seems you know what you want. I can't suggest more suitable lenses for your purposes than those you have suggested. The 35 mm f/1.8 even comes up second-hand these days, so you might be able to save some cash towards another lens.

How about a better quality zoom like the tamron 17-50 2.8? Dosnt quite have the lowlight as the 35mm but if your using bounce flash and off camera flash anyway you wont need f1.8.
If you do buy a prime lens then i would get the 35mm over the 50mm i have both and use the 35mm a lot more.
