Hi, new on here , Im training to be a children's photographer, alongside my mum. She has a computer to do all her editing, but I do not have room for a computer.

Can anyone recommend a good laptop, I can see that the mac book pro is good, but do not have £1200-£1500 for a laptop, so is there any others from between £500-700?

Thanks

Danielle :):)

Hi Danielle you might want to repost this in the computer sections here

You won't get too much of a response here to your question in the welcome thread but welcome anyway this is a great place to get encouragement and learn alot.

I am not an expert but one of these would be a good place to start, both have a decent memory size and RAM and reasonable screen size. For photo editting I would not go for a screen less than 15 inches, if this is not big enough you can always get an external monitor and plug it in **** is what I do and you can have a two screen setup.

Both are refurbished models so you get more for less, my laptop is refurbished and never had any problems with it

Moved :)

My suggestion would be to watch ukhotdeals for something with an i5 or i7 processor in it that they say is a good deal and see if it looks desirable. May take a week or two for something suitable to appear but it will usually be a bargain deal.

A MacBook isn't any different to any other laptop in the same price bracket.

For your budget you should be able to get at least an i5 with 6-8gb memory. Screens at that price will be a bit "meh", if you can stretch your budget to get a refurb dell ips monitor then do that.

15", i7-3xxxQM, 8GB memory, best screen you can afford (1920 x 1080 if you can find one). Look on the Dell outlet pages and bide your time.

As you posted the same thread again I guess you didn't notice the first one was moved here.

I've merged the 2 threads now so you get the replies together...

Most laptops of that price won't have an issue with internal specs (CPU, RAM) but the best bet will be to look for one with a good screen if you don't want to buy a separate monitor. Screens are harder to differentiate but you don't want one with a TN screen, instead you want one with an IPS or PVA screen. They will be more expensive but the screen will be worth it. You may be able to find one or two within your budget now, especially refurbs.

I have the following:-

http://www.medion.com/gb/prod/MEDION®+AKOYA®++P7815+(MD98112)/30014206A1

Very good specs for the money and so far, I haven't had any issues with it (owned it for 6 weeks).

The screen is definately its weakness as far as editing is concerned, possibly the hard disc read/write speed as well, but the internals are really good...ie i5 processor, 8GB of RAM. So I'm on the look out for a full HD 24" monitor that I can connect a HDMI cable to, from my laptop and have received great help with suggestions so far from this thread
