which hoya 77mm CPL

Neither - find the Kenko Wide Band C-Pl on Ebay.

Same thing as the top end Hoya, at a fraction of the price.
 
Thanks for this thread. Just ordered 3 Kenko CPL from different places on ebay (spread the risk)

fotocola seemed the cheapest by a few quid, and feedback seemed good.

If you have any Hoya filters already, on the back of the case it'll say "Made by Tokina", same as for the Kenko.

In Japan (where these are made), they are all sold as Kenko, Hoya is just an overseas brand name :)

Im after the top end hoya equivilent, at the mo i have the Hoya Super pro1, so is this the same?

Yep, exactly the same - Kenko Pro 1D = Hoya Pro 1D.

Same stuff.
 
Glad I found this thread - just saved myself many, many pounds on a 77mm polariser. Thanks chaps:thumbs:
 
Just out of interest, (i'll post here instead of making a whole new thread) i am looking into buying into the cokin p series filters. How does the quality of the C-Pol made by cokin compare to that of hoya/kenko pro1?

I've got a Cokin P164 which seems fine - I'd much rather use a screw in filter though, but if you want to use a C-Pol + a Grad in a Cokin type setup its worth using, but I don't think I'd bother otherwise.

What type of situation would you need to use a grad and a C-Pol?
or shall i put it another way, i am going to america in the summer and will be buying grads to stop the sky being blown out. Would you think i need a C-pol too?

I get great skies using a 1stop ND grad and a polariser...

Don't think you can beat a polariser for good skies; the grad just brings the exposure down a smidgin. (Sorry for being so technical ;))

The situation you describe is exactly when I would use them together. A C-Pol to control reflections from foliage, improve sky etc, a Grad to darken the sky and hold detail.

They are completely different filters designed for different tasks.

Do you use the cokin c-pol then?

Puddleduck, so from what i can gather, you can only use a C-Pol and another filter with a slot in system, you cant use a Screw in CP and then a slot in system over the top?

Well you could screw in a normal C-Pol and handhold a Grad etc over the front, but whenever I've tried this, I've usually ended up messing it up.

I find the Cokin slot system a pain really, but if you want to use a Grad + C-Pol its probably the most practical way.
