Hi guys, I'm really close to buying myself my first hotshoe flashgun.

I've been looking at a used SB-600 as I believe it will suit my needs. I think it's important to have TTL as I want to cover clubs and parties. Off camera flash will be useful too but not essential.

Then I stumbled upon other makes such as the Nissin Di622 and the Yongnuo 467 which also has TTL and are half the price new.

My question is if these 3rd party makes will do just as good a job as the Nikon? Do they share the same features?

Thank you for your time and I hope that you experts could shed some light (pun intended ;) ) on this topic!

Hi
imho it is best to get the best equipment you can straight from the off, obviously without going overboard. Buy cheap, buy twice. If I was you I would go for the nikon flash for my own piece of mind, im not saying 3rd party stuff is no good, but very often you do get what you pay for.

I was in the same position and bought one of these.... Yongnuo YN-468II....

I cant compare it to a Nissin or Nikon flash as i've not used them, but the build quality seems good and the ttl works well with my D80.

im also on the lookout for a good cheap alt to the canon make as for what im going to use it for it just doesn't justify spending out so much on the canon makes..

the one im tempted to buy is the YN-565ex but wondering if this will be too large for my 600D as i think the YN-468II is smaller, but dont like the look of it at the back like what i do with the 565ex

This is usually my policy too, I am willing to spend the money on a SB-600 but can't help but wonder if it's possible to save money, you know how it is :D

Also as the SB600 is old now I was just wondering if the 3rd party makes could be just as good. Anyone here had any experience with using both?

Thanks for the heads up that looks like a great! Just researching up on the pros and cons vs a SB-600 and Nissin Di622 now

I would go with the Nikon, there was a couple of guy's at the club I used to go to and they were using none Nikon Flash units (cant remember the name of them) and they were having all sorts of issues.

I used to shoot Nikon and had a SB700 (I think) and it never let me down once, it was an import from Hongkong and at the time I managed to get away without paying any import tax :)
