Hi guys,

I have a Nikon D3200 for which i now have bought a 50mm f1.4 prime lens. I am totally new to photography world so i need your thoughts on what filter i should buy. After reading up on the internet and i felt that i might need polarized circular (*** i have auto focus on my prime 50mm) for landscapes in addition to the UV filter. I want your professional vote for the best brand that should consider for both of the filters mentioned above (if i have chosen the right filters that is). Also, should i get a UV or skylight and what make!

thanks in advance

I've never been a lover of filters at all - perhaps for landscapes, the polarising filter may be of use - I never saw the point in UV or skylight filters - you pay a small fortune for "class glass" in the lens, why take the risk of distortions of all sorts induced by the filters?
I've found that a good deep lens hood is more than ample protection for the lens, and managed to go 20 years in the rough and tumble of professional photography without ever damaging any lens elements.........

thanks for your reply organnyx, it was pretty useful. Just for knowledge sake, what mm filter would go with a 50 mm 1.4 nikor? All i see is an mm number with each filter. Whats that about?

It's the diameter of the thread for where you screw the filter onto the lens.

You want a 58mm filter for a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4G
