Well for a start it might be best to try a C41 b/w film as a supermarket can develope it and put it on a CD for you for about £2.
 
I think Fuji Neopan of whatever ISO you like would be a good starting point. I like neo-pan, you get nice black blacks with that film. To me at is a more contrasty film straight out of the tin than the Ilford equivelants and most street shot seems to use a lot of contrast.

Of course too much contrast isn't always a good thing and it can be added at the printing or photoshop stage but I like Neopan straight out of the camera and I don't think you'll be disappointed if you order a roll or two.

So if you are going to develop the film yourself then I would try Ilford Delta 400, Ilford HP5+ or T-Max 400, these are all 400ISO films.

If your going to get them deved in a mini lab then I would sugest Kodak B400 CN or Ilford XP2 both of whihc are C41 process so the likes of Tesco, Asda etc should be able to do them.

I am sure there are some Fuji ones but I don't know much about the Fuji B&W so wont say owt.

I am sure a few others will be along in a bit a suggest stuff.

Don't forget to post them on the forum here when you have them processed :D :thumbs:

Cheers for all the feedback :) I really can't wait to start shooting some films! I am going to start off developing them via asda/tescos etc but will do my own once the house move is done and I can set a space up!

Ack out of stock :p how long does 7 day shop take to usually replenish stock?

What type of camera do you have? Is it a medium format or 35mm? If it's a standard 35mm I highly recommend the Ilford XP2 super 400. Wicked grain and B&W really suits street. If you're using medium format Ilford HP5 Plus is awesome.

I've only just started on colour so can't give good advice there yet

Im using a super paxette on 35mm :) B+W is what I want to do anyway :)

I have had experience which range from a few days to over a month. Depends on which type of film, I guess
 
I had a couple of rolls on back order for about 3 months... totally forgot about them to be honest, then they landed on the doormat!
 
Just sent 7Day shop an email asking for an estimate as for when new stock arrives :)
 
try mailshots.co.uk as an alternative. Neil is very helpful if there are stock issues.
 
Try silverprint.co.uk once you get fully into it! They're good for all sorts of stuff.

Since you're on 35mm you might get lucky with your local Jessops...they occasionally sell off cheap too since film's not particularly popular!

My vote would be for something like Ilford FP4+ or HP5+
