Hi all,

My girlfriend's Dad has a Pentax SLR and now he wants to go digital. He would like to know if he can get a DSLR that would allow him to attach his lens:

Tamron 28-200mm f3.8-5.6 AF XR Di ASP
Pentax M 1:1.7mm
PENTAX-A 35mm f2 K Lens K1000/MX

Unfortunately my limited knowledge doesn't put me in a good position to advise , but can anyone here help? Please let me know if any further info is required before advice can be given!

Thanks in advance

Iain

Those lenses will fit any pentax digital slr to date e.g. K10D,K20D K7- you only need the adaptor if its an m42 screw fit lens the pentax A35 f2 will work very well as it will use the full matrix metering.

hope that helps

What 'Selectcase' said, Pentax is unique among camera makers in that they don't keep on changing there mount every time a new line comes out. So if it's a 'K' mount lens it'll fit a 'K' mount body I've got lenses that are older that me and they work on both my Pentax DSLR (I remember the Queen's silver jubilee).

Wont they fit a Samsumg DSLR too?

Ahh yes i forgot about the samsung - just as good a camera and they were cheaper if i remember correctly

I think you will find that if they have manual aperture they will work on any Canon DSLR with an adapter, but without any autofocus capacity. You shoot in aperture priority mode, setting the aperture and focus manually, and the camera will meter the shutter speed correctly.

*Cough* Nikon F-mount...

Nikon, never heard of them, are they one of these cult manufacturers? :p :D

Nikon's F-mount hasn't quite got the backward compatibility of Pentax K-mount. Some of the older Nikkor lenses need minor modifications to fit on new bodies. Never mind the metering problems you'll get with older Nikkor lenses. :)

I'll have to take your word on that as I'm ignorant on Pentax, but I'd blame newer Nikon bodies for losing metering rather than the lenses...and you have to go back quite a way (pre-AI) for the lenses to require modification. In fact, on some of the bottom-end bodies (those same ones that lose metering :suspect:) pre-AI lenses will mount without damaging the camera!

edit: /derail ;)
