Hi guy's. I am looking for a good quality compact, for those time when you don't want to carry all the big stuff. I am torn between the Panasonic Lumix LX 100. Or the Sony RX 100 Mk iv. Does anyone have hands on experience of either of these,or can you recommend an alternative.
Many thanks in advance.
Roger.

I've had the Canon G9X for a couple of months now and highly recommend it. Great UI with mix of touchscreen and physical controls.
Smaller than the competition - truly pocketable.
Doesn't seem to have a lot of love on the forums (the big boys prefer the G7X apparently) but I'm very happy - I tend to use the 28mm end and rarely zoom so the relative lack of long focal length coupled with that slow f4.9 doesn't really bother me. And I prefer the fast 28mm wide end to the 24mm of the other cameras.
Of note I did have the RX100 Mk1 (broke recently after 4 years, well, actually, I dropped it on a tile floor!) and the Mk 3 (sold it on as I didn't use the bells and whistles). The RX100 mk1 is an excellent camera too but the Canon is smaller with a much better UI and the WiFi implementation is excellent.
The LX 100 is a different (bigger) kettle of fish, to my mind.
Canon is also cheapish and has a £30 cash back currently.

The Panasonic GM1 and GM5 are a bit bigger but not that much bigger than a 1" sensor compact.

The main difference in comparison with something like a RX100 is that 12-32 kit lens - even though compact - still sticks out a bit when in its closed position whereas on the compacts the lenses fold further back int to the body. So a bit less pocketable. On the other hand they are well featured and you can add an extra lens or two if commiting to use them for say extended travel trips (as an example the 35-100 F4-5.6 zoom is quite small).

Thanks guy's. plenty to think about.
