Which CF Card for my 5D MK3

Which would be the best value for money CF card for my nice new Canon 5D Mk3. I will not be using the camera for video, but will probablt due a bit od sports photography. So something reasonably fast but not breaking the bank.
 
Well you can pick up a 16gb 90mb/sec from Sandisk for about 65 notes this is what I use in mine...that said I'm betting that as its sports you'll likely only be shooting jpeg so for that reason you could most likely happily get away with the cheaper 45-60mb/sec versions
 
So a £2k+ camera and you want to scrimp on the cf card?

I'd get the fast sandisk one as mentioned above, it's what I use without any issues ( I have 4 of them). Nice and fast to get those huge raw images off (or many, many jpegs).
 
Running lexar 8gb 800x here..... Super quick

I've been using transcend 32gb 90/sec cars for 18 months without a failure and decent speeds, considerably cheaper than the Sandisk equivalent :)
 
You get a little bit more before the buffer fills and the frame rate drops with a faster card. I've found that typically with a 90mb/sec card I get 3 more frames shooting in raw. Quite fancy trying a Lexar 1000x to see if that improves it further. If you're shooting jpeg then I guess a 60mb/sec will be fine.

:lol: yeah, £2 camera means no money left :rules: not even for just £300 grip.

I use 16GB Kingston 600X CF (more like 400X in reality, but plenty for me) and a couple Sandisk 32GB SDs.

BTW. 18 months later you will 2x larger cards for same money. This has been try since the first silicon chip was made.
 
I've got Duracell 16Gb cards in CF and SDHC and they are excellent, fast read/write speed and very reliable too. Never had a problem with them and they are a decent price too.
 
I've found if the second slot is enabled it doesnt matter too much what's in the CF slot as it seems to be the SD that slows things down.
I use 8Gb cards but for a days use they arent big enough. Beware of manufacturer's claims for speed, invariably its the offload (read) speed they claim rather than write speed which is often much much slower. Didnt find much difference between 800x and 1000x Lexar cards tbh.

I've just ordered the Sandisk Extreme Pro 32gb card yesterday which was recommended for the 5D III - just over £100

Depends how you set them up. I tend to write small jpegs to the SD card, raws to the CF.

I use a 32gb and 16gb Sandisk Extreme pro cf cards and shoot equestrian sports at times. all in raw and no problem at all with them.
 
I've been using the Lexar pro 800x for a while now in my 1Dx and it works well.

Done that, but it reduces the burst rate and capacity I find. Second slot is good though for in-camera back-up when away from a PC etc.

SD slot defaults to 177x only no matter how fast the card is. I only have a CF card in the camera.
