Hi....

I am looking to get back into photography after having all my equipment stolen a few years ago. I originally had a 60D, and will be looking at a lot of animal photography, particularly equine (sports and commission work using lighting etc), and travel photography for a small magazine feature.

What are your recommendations regarding the Canon range? Obviously price will be a factor however I would like to know peoples thoughts as to what is ideally the best camera for this type of thing

Many thanks!

If you're used to the controls of a 60D then I'd say stick with the XXD range rather than the XXXD or XXXXD range. 60D is a good camera, do yu need better than that?

An idea of budget would help, but I would as above, recommend the xxD as that is what you had and were used to - I presume you were happy with it and it did what you were after / wanted ?

You could pick up another 60D or the newer 70D, then you have lenses to think about - again, an idea of budget and what you had would help...

I wasn't using the 60D for the specific reasons above, that was just the camera I originally had; mostly used for travelling photos etc. However I was looking to start taking more professional photographs therefore would the 60D still be a good option? Most people I've spoken to seem to recommend the 5D as they take semi professional photos on a regular basis. I'm not too worried about learning a new operating system so this wouldn't be an issue. Completely appreciate that a budget would be useful, I would ideally like to ascertain which camera would be best and then see if its viable price wise! Or look at the next best affordable option. I don't want to buy a camera then to find that in a few months it wont be suitable once I have gotten into the swing of things. Thanks again!

Top of the range is the 1DX, but i assume you don't want to spend over £4000 on a camera body. You have the 5D MKIII, full frame, similar autofocus system to the 1DX but 1/2 the price, so meets most if not all your requirements. You have the 6D, again full frame, but inherits similar autofocus system to the 5D MKII, but with a few improvements. If you like the advantage of the cropped sensor for wildlife, then there's the 70D which inherits the autofocus system of the 7D minus a few bits, or just announced the 7D MKII, or you could look at the secondhand mark and buy something like the 1Ds MKIII (full frame) or 1D MKIV (1.3x crop), but what ever body you go for, you need to budget for some decent lenses.
