The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby
or
Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Photographers, by Martin Evening.
Martin's Book may be a bit more technical than Scotts
Go to Amazon and check both out. Each book has a "Look inside" option which allows you to see sample chapters of each.
