Morning all,

My missus has bought me a copy of Photoshop CS3 with her recently received work bonus :D but I'm a complete novice with post processing (I have a copy of photoshop 7, but I never really got to grips with anything beyond sharpening :()

Can somebody recommend an easy to read book to get me started. I know there are some cracking tips on here in the tutorials section, but I need a nice easy to read 'how to do photoshop things' bedtime read.

Any suggestions marras?? :)

Well there's a great book by Annabel Williams.......... ;)

But on a serious note, there are LOADS of tutorials on the internet, just google 'photoshop tutorials' and you'll get vast amounts of stuff from really simple things to much more complex stuff! Not sure about books though, I'm sure someone will be able to help out much more than me!

Chris

I accept there's some great tutorials on the net, but I think the missus will object to me bringing our PC to bed with us!! :D I really need an easy to read book if possible. :)

Yes in fact I am Martin Evening - I go around all the forums and advertise my book cos I need the cash.

:cuckoo:

It's not as ridiculous as you might think! Ask 'Sunnyjim'....:D

But I fear this will very soon head off topic! There are so many books out there, maybe go to PC world and have a flick-through? (Then buy it on Amazon, obviously!) Or print tutorials off the net?

I have built up a library of books including the book by Martin Evening which is very good.

Have a look in local charity shops and see if there are any books on CS1 or 2 - they should give you a good idea as to how to go about most tasks in CS3 (unless things have changed a LOT - software upgrades tend to be in the line of added whistles and bells rather than major changes). If you then find you DO need a "proper" CS3 book, you can do a lot worse than the Evening book.

I saw a magazine come book in Smiths yesterday. Photoshop for photographers. Was just sat with all the mags and was from the same people that do one of the mags - Digital Camera i think.

That might be a goodie as it'll specifically cover common photography topics and has lots of pics showing what does what. Looked like a reprint of all their magazine tutorials.

I've got CS2 for Dummies, but find it a lot easier if I can sit at the computer and work through stuff, rather than try and remember it the next day.

You could look in your local library to see if they have anything - I've just got SAMS Teach Yourself Photoshop CS3 in 24 hours from my library :)

Haven't had chance to look at it yet but I should be an expert in 24 hours :)

I bought CS3 for dummies, I must be a bigger dummy than I thought so went to a large book store in Newcastle to find something simpler and was faced with 3 shelves dedicated to CS3.
I came across this one,
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0470114525
Dead simple visual step by step instructions to follow, it should be with me shortly and if that does not help me I may as well give up :cuckoo:

Try The photoshop CS3 book for digital photographers, by
Scot Kelby.
Very easy to read and understand.

I have this one and it is very good, also have the previous PS2 version (not an awful lot of difference between them to be honest) which is now surplus to requirements if anyone wants to make an offer!

Same as above excellent tutorial, you could also try "Scott Kelby's 7-point system for Adobe Photoshop CS3" i just got this yesterday, and at an initial look it looks just as good as his others, but it just concentrates on the 7 most used tools in Photoshop, and gives 21 tutorials in how to use them on different photos, look here
