Which background for product shots

I am desperate to get some advice as soon as possible and would so greatfull for your help

I went for a cheap pair of soft box continuous lights frm ebuyer which seem ok. What do you reccomend i buy next to improve my set up?

Also, i need to buy an infinate backdrop for product shots. Not sure which i should go for:

I'd go for cotton as it won't have any gloss to it at all.

That "vynil" is actually paper, so will also be matt.

For product pack shots with just a white background, I usually pay little attention to the backdrop, and just make sure there is white all the way around the object. So long as it's lit well, and the reflections all look good the client is usually not bothered, as they will be cutting it out most likely. I tend to supply clients with a clipping path included for this purpose.

If they want finished images, then you can do this for them. It's far easier than making a perfect set.

Personally, I use cotton ... for no other reason than it's almost continuously re-usable. With paper, if it gets marked or creased you have to replace it - cotton just goes in the washing machine

Sorry... I mean making a mask with the pen tool and then creating a clipping path from it. This acts as a guide so anyone can turn it back into a selection and cut the image out without doing any work. Usually when I shoot products for a client, how neat and white the background looks is immaterial as they fully expect to cut it out. When you see pack shots in catalogues on a white background, they're cut out.

If you're just wanting to shoot on a white background and not bother with that, just use white paper. You can form scoops with it etc and get good results. It's cheap... almost disposable.
