I'm sure this question has been asked before. Thinking of changing to Apple but not sure should I go for an Imac of a Macbook Pro 13". Opinions please. merv:bonk:

Do you really think a 13" screen will be big enough, if not the that answers your question

Depends on if you want the portability of a MBP vs better specs/screen size of an iMac. Another option is cant go wrong with a 15" MBP?

Cox's Orange Pippin for me....

I'm old school... French Golden Delicious :)

Meanwhile, back in the thread.....

If you think about it, this is easy. Do you need to take your computer to different locations or on location? If so, you get the MBP, although 13" is pitiful. I can't see how anyone can work on such a small screen.. If not, budget for a 27" iMac. Big screens rock.

Some fruity comments there!
I meant to say the 15 inch model, not the 13. It does seem a good size. Mind you the Imac isnt much dearer. Its larger but you loose the portability.
Tough decision

If you go for the 15" seriously look at the retina option. the image quality of the screen is just gorgeous .

However if you opt for an iMac you could go for the 21 " and save a few hundred quid over the 27". However once you see the 27" game over.....

Also hang on for a few weeks if you are going for the iMac as new models are slatted for December. The new ones are ultra thin ( at the edge ) and have USB 3 and Thunderbolt ports, rather than USB 2 and Firewire.

If you don't always work at a desk then a 15.4" MBP is amazingly good, even the non-Retina models are superb. Plus you can hook an external monitor up to them if required.

I was wondering if the mac mini is any good as this does not tie you to the built in screen of a macbook or imac (I'm not a fan of glossy screens)

The new iMac - due out in November, is supposed to have resolved this.

The new 27" screens will be incredible!

They said that last time, but loads of the first batch in 2009 had yellow tint areas in various parts of the screen.
I was offered a replacement screen, but at the time even those were not 100% so as mine was not as bad as others I'd seen decided to put up with it.
Lets wait until the new units are available before we rate how good they are, plus there are continuing delays in getting the new iMac built and looking like they miss the holiday sale and not be here till 2013

I did read that the new mini mac is a powerful as the last Mac Pro , so that could well be they way to go, as you can pick your own screen.

Mac mini with top end i7 and 8+gb ram for me with a 15" MBP with retina display :-). Portability and power! Alternatively the mac mini on its own is pretty portable (although not usable on the move!) and it's amazing what they've crammed into the new one.

You're right that it's similar to the power of the base spec Mac Pro used to have!

Hi Tony throwing in your two cents worth as usual. Wife loves her MacAir
