Hi all

Next month I'll be purchasing a new printer, specifically for photographic printing purposes up to A3 in size.

I've looked at the Canon Pro-100 and while it's very nice, the cost of replacement inks bring tears to my eyes, they are ridiculously high.

So instead I'm thinking about going for a CISS system with an A3 printer of some kind, I'm just not sure which.

Has anyone got any experience here with running a CISS ink system with an A3 printer? Are they any good and are they reliable? What's your setup?

I don't mind going for OEM inks if there are any good recommendations.

Thanks for your help!

I use an epson 2880 with refillable cartridges and fotospeed inks. I got fed up with ciss tubes so thought I'd try the cartridges and I've been very happy with those and the inks. Very helpful people at fotospeed too, always willing to answer my questions.

I'm told that CISS is worthwhile if you are doing lots of printing, but I've no experience of using it. As you say, inks on high end printers are very expensive. I bought an Epson R3000 earier in the year an the cartridges are around £20 each. However, they are pretty damn big and consequently last a long time, even printing lots of A3. I couldn't tell you how many as most of my output is black and white as opposed to colour (so usage is skewed towards certain cartridges) but I have been pleasantly surprised.

I'd check out the volume of ink in the cartridges before choosing a printer, and if its worth the extra cost of CISS given how much you print.
