Hi guys,

Was wondering what was the real benefit of choosing between these two lenses:

Nikon AF 1.8D
Nikon AF-S 1.8G

I am using a d7000 and i believe the main difference between these two lenses is that the G has its own focusing motor, but if the camera has this too then am i wasting an extra £70 buying the G over the D?

i'm pretty confused at the moment.

The G is a little better optically as well. If you can justify the cost it's a better lens but I can't really say if it's worth the extra £70 or not, depends how much you'll use it I guess.

Of you don't already have o e, consider the 35mm F1.8
Equivelent 50mm on your d7000, cracking length, great lens.
50mm on the d7k I find a bit long in most instances.

Thanks for the advice guys! I bit the bullet and bought the 50mm 1.8 G. I hope it will serve me well.

I've got the older D version and it's a cracking little lens.
Agreed it's a bit soft at f/1.8 so I never use it that wide open. f/2 is better, f/2.8 it starts getting sharp and at f/8 it's ridiculously sharp!
The G will serve you very well though. If the concencus is that the G is better than the D then it'll be great as I really think the D is a great little lens for the money.
