Hi guys.

When I asked on here a few days ago about which DSLR to get, I was pointed in the direction of the Nikon D50 by a few people. Today I went on WarehouseExpress.com and found that it wasn't even mentioned on their site. I thought that was wierd, so I went to Jessops.com and found they didn't mention it either.

Where have all the d50s gone? Don't they make them anymore? Are they too out-of-date now? I can get one off Ebay but I quite fancied a new one. :(

Thanks,

Ewan

I bought my D50 as a 'refurbished' model from Young's Camera Shop in Edinburgh (they have an ebay user name and get rid of some stuff on there). Came with the kit for £300+£10 postage and a 6month warranty.

http://SPAM/yp2ses - Mine is identical to this auction.

Refurbished can sometimes mean that the camera was used as a display unit or at as a test camera at an exhibition and hence, cannot be sold as 'new'. (Or atleast that's what they told me when I rang them up and asked)

Definatly consider a D50 in some shape or form though, its a good shape+weight compared to competitors and has all the features i'll ever need.

A brand new D50 with kit lens for £300 is an absolute bargain.

At whatever point I upgrade it'll most likely be to another Nikon but I'm going to keep the D50 as a backup body / camera for 'risky' operations!

Have to agree, I'm looking at getting a D80 or 200 in the future with my D50 as backup. If it lasts long enough my son lewis might well inherit it.

im selling a d50 on flea bay.
if your after one and are interested il knock it off there and its yours for 200 notes delivered. its one of my back up cams

Thanks guys for all your help and generous offers :)

I think I'll look around a bit more, wait a month or two and then make a decision and get it :D

I've still got to decide which long lens to get with it, and find one that I can afford. Any ideas anyone?

What is the range and budget? The sigma 70-300mm apo version is great for the money, about £160 ish, I bought the non apo version and so wish I paid the extra money. If you have £330 the nikon 70-300mm VR is a great lens and on my future shopping list to replace the sigma. Hope this helps :)

Cheers.

I don't think the VR is a possibility at this stage. Just too much doshers for me :(

Just been reading on another thread that the Nikkor 70-300mm G lens is good and (gathered from a quick Google) costs around £150. Might look into that soon. I'll have a look at the APO sigma you suggested as well :)
