As the title says.
Where could i possibly start? I know this is something i could enjoy doing for a living but i have no idea where to start.

I could do evenings and weekends around my current job until i'm confident enough that i could support myself solely with my photography.

1. assist a professional
2. gather knowledge and confidence
3. pick the genre of photography carefully, it might not be the genre that you most enjoy but it will have to pay the bills.

This article is interesting, about the do's and don'ts of assisting, its American and funny.

Most really, but i think i'd mostly enjoy fashion.

Phototography is actually one of the hardest industries to get into, not becuase it requires talent (which it does) but there are SO many other people doing the same thing.

As much as it is the talent, it's the break / opportunity you get within the industry. You can be the worlds greatest photographer but if you don't get a good opportunity you won't be going anywhere.

It's a great industry to get involved in though. If you trying to get into fasion photography, as others have said, try and get a job as an assistant in a modelling studio. Offer yourself freely as at this point you want the experience.

I would call all the photography studios and photographers near you and try and talk your way in offering free assistance work of any kind. They will want to see samples of your work so be prepared with all that before you call. Just get yourself out there and network. Reason I say that is luckily Ive managed to get into a local studio for evenings and weekends by just being proactive and talking to photographers and generally telling everyone I met and knew that I wanted to get into photography. Its who u know, not what u know that gets u in,altho what u know is important.

Try and offer them something that will make them money so they also have something to gain from it apart from having an assistant.Like if you're good at photoshop, offer photoshop editing in return as most photographers cant be bothered with that. Or if you are good at sales/marketing,offer them your sales skills whether its getting them more work or expanding on a side of business they arent into currently as an add on to their business. Failing all that offer to carry their bags

If you arent fussed with what u do or how u get in,and u get yourself out there and network and not give up, you will get something.Good luck :)

Thanks for the advice, i will call round a few and pester them until they give up! :D

I will try Manchester too as thats where i am most weekends :D

Good luck with it. Where there's a will, there's a way:)
