I will be honest, I have enjoyed myself experimenting and taking lots of (what I consider) to be some pretty good photos of models over the past year, but for reasons various, things have changed.

What I am simply asking is, what can I shoot that will give me the same buzz as taking a photo of a person that when they see it, makes them go wow?

I am looking at what genre I should now move on to and looking for suggestions really.

Have you tried bird photography. Challenging waiting and getting the right shot. ok they cannot tell you if they like it or not but it is a good feeling when you nail the shot as they do not pose for you.

Lanscapes
Waterdrops
oil and water.
you have lights flashes how about a bit of still life

the list is endless.

Appreciate that the list is endless and maybe someone will spark something with their suggestion but bird photography with a 24-105 lens is pushing it i think.....i was thinking street photography but do not have the confidence yet.

bigger lens and go motorsport

Not sure what is around your area Graham but weather permitting there are usually street performers in the town on a weekend. This will help to build your confidence up a bit. Take a walk around the town and up those little side streets where people seldom venture, ignore what is staring you in the face but look for the little things that are less obvious to us all.

Premier league football will give you a good buzz to shoot.

That's impossible for anyone else to say. What do you enjoy? What else do you do? Linking photography with a personnel interest that has nothing to do with photography is often the best way to rekindle a waning interest.

I took my long lens to the park today, and yes I found it challenging. I also found it therapeutical and relaxing, a bit like fishing. I can see why people like doing bird photography :)

All points taken, and with the upcoming weather for Spring I might just have to give some birds and scenery a go. Appreciated that only I can really choose but was looking for inspiration. My work models for now, will have to stop, which is a shame as I loved the interaction and creativity.

What about trying film?

I tried an old Russian Zorki, fun but tough as my main subjects are kids!! Then a Nikon FE, classic 70s SLR which wasa good, and now have a 1957 Rolleicord. Really makes you think more and shoot in a different way.

Agree with this

Going with film after a good while on digital is a big challenge.

My local college offers evening and Saturday courses to take the film into developing and printing.

Fun cameras from the 80s are v cheap and the simpler the better. My favoutites bring 70s and 80s Pentsx SLRs (K1000 MX ME Suprr and the earlier spotmatics)

Just sold a ME + lens to a local guy whose 11 year old daughter wants to hang up her digital for a while!

Whatever genre you decide on, film will cover them, after all its how it was done for so many years.

A root around car boot and jumble sales may throw up some bargains. I got a vg working Kiev medium format camera for £5!!!

Why have things changed. If you like photogaphing people then stick with it.

People yes would be ok.....but the models are becoming an issue....LOL
