I need to get 4 photos printed in 30-40cm format.

Can anyone give me any recommendations on where they have got these sort of prints done?

:)

Can you give me any further info? Prices, lead time etc

Many thanks

Thanks for all the recommendations, I am gonna look into them. Any further ones would be appreciated:)

Not an expert really, just something of photo quality, my printer doesn't seem to be very good quality, hence why I am looking elsewhere

What printer do you have ?

So just a gloss finish etc

Probably best just to go with DSCL

+1 for DSCL.

-1 for DSCL here .. complete waste of time if ordering A3 as they dont use A3 size paper.. really messed me up today :( Seriously.. they use larger than A3 and put the a3 print on that.. leaving you with an ugly white line down one side..

You would think a pro lab could print an A3 proper.. oh and try complaining.. its my fault not theres... disgusting customer support :(

as for printing from home.. you wont get the same finish as a pro lab.. I have a regular customer who can tell instantly the difference.. do pro labs have some sort of coating on them?

Wondered myself why they do that. I just use my trimmer to take off the extra, but it is odd.

It will be the width of the roll paper they use I should imagine.

All the prints we do for everyone come at the exact size with no white lines or
borders unless asked for.

If it was for me then I would and no worries.. but to send to a customer.. I am never going to get a straight line..

thing is.. my last order i asked them to make them same size as paper and they did.. I even have them here.. this time they wont.. and even though i offered to repay and explained exactly what i needed.. i was basiacally told ...my fault :( quiote happy wiht the other prints i ordered.. but not happy with lack of help even if i should ahve ordered bigger as they tell me..

exactly..this is what they said... so how can other labs print to a3 but they cant?

Hi,
Sorry to hear your having problems. I'm afraid we cannot print an A3 in
this way as Fuji do not make an A3 sized paper so we have to size an A3
image onto a larger paper size hence the white edge. The image will be
exactly A3 but the paper size will not. This is unavoidable as we can
only print in round inches whereas any 'A' size normally measured in
centimetres.

TBF don't they tell you this anyway so surely its on your own head to order it

The reason you can tell is because they are more glossy but they don't have the sharpness that a decent home printer does.

is it that much of an issue to use a scalpal an a straight edge? they're 6th of the price of competing printers, and they presumably make up that price difference by using minimal staff, at metro/peak/loxley you're always paying for someone to help you even when you don't need it

and photos aren't in a 'a3' aspect ration anyway, so it's strange they would want prints done in a3

think of DSCL as an unmanned printing station staffed only by robots, i.e. prep your files for print yourself, read the FAQ's and reap the cost saving rewards. Go to metro or something for a more hands on approach.

Dscl have been great for prints for me. If you ask in comments to trim the white band off the a3's they will. I asked once for them too do it and I won't again, edge was nowhere near straight.

But print quality is really good in my eyes.

I wonder when the forum will have a 'sticky' on labs - thie question of where to get prints done comes up more times than I could care to mention. It is well overdue.

THATS MY PROBLEM... they did once and now say the comments is for address and invoice not for the pics...i have the email here :(

'A' sizes are not photographic sizes are they?.

'A' sizes are not photographic sizes are they?.

Agree but AGAIN! ... So why do photo labs offer them for prints?

Its a poor excuse to offer a size prints then say ..oh there not right because a isnt photo size.... very poor IMHO

PS thats aimed at the way the thread is going not any company... poor stuff to use A not photo size .. in this day and age?

I need some very high quality A2 prints done (they have to fit in A2 portfolio sleeves). Any recommendations?

Thanks. I've seen that, but the price is almost identical to TradeCanvasPrint and I heard good things about them, not heard anything about that place though. Also TCP offers 10% off.

S England (Poole):

http://www.paulwilliamsdigital.co.uk/

Old school & very good printer with reasonable prices- you'll need to call him for details.

Midlands:

http://www.dunnsprophoto.co.uk/proprints.php

The first link doesn't work, it just says 'we’re very sorry but the site is being reconstructed at the moment'. I'll give him a call.

Just checking the second link.

I need a place that offers a discount on large multi-print order. Also the quality is very important. I'm in Scotland BTW.

Thanks

Well I have just had another large delivery from DSCL and every print is spot on, both Monochrome and Colour. All my prints are 10in x 15in but I have them printed on 12in x 18in paper so that I can have a nice white border when I mount them :).

OMG! are you serious? so why does A3 exist ? and more important given your comment.. why do they advertise them?

ISO paper standard nothing to do with photos lol

What is more bizarre is A3+ (13x19 inch) finding a cheap frame in that size is harder than finding a fart in a jacuzzi
