Where to get Lenses cleaned in NW England?

Hello all,

I have a Canon 17-40 that needs a professional touch, it has various obvious dust specs inside the lens somewhere that I am tired of photoshopping out of my pics!

I've never had a lens cleaned before, can anyone recommend anywhere to take it in NW England (I'm in Manchester)?

Hi Duncan

Its *extremely* unlikely dust in a lens is showing up in your images.

Its much more likely your sensor needs a clean.

Try your 17-40 and another lens, both at f/22 - I'll bet you'll find that the spots appear in the same place....
 
as above - dust spec rarely show up on the images unless they are on the sensor.

Read this article for an amazing demonstration of the point, and then compare the condition of your lens with the condition of the one used there.
 
amazing article there, It shocked me.

But anyway.. Anywhere in NW to get sensor cleaned, Im really unsure on doing it myself
 
I use a guy in Burnley.. does the 1dmkII for about 20 quid.. but if your in Manchester surely theres somewhere closer?
 
Ah, rightio. Perhaps it is because I don't tend to use my 70-200 at such narrow apertures? Will look into sensor cleaning...
 
Lehmans in Stoke. About £30 a pop, although they are a fair way from Manchester.
 
You could get some PecPads and Eclipse fluid for about £15 and DIY.

I've not needed to do a "wet clean" for ages, but its very simple, and a skill worth learning.
