Looking to book a week somewhere for May, or June time, for myself, wife and son who will be 2 in April.

Will probably look to rent a cottage somewhere, the question is where? I live in Cambridge, so East Anglia is out as that is day-tripable as well as the fact I work over Anglia. So choice of Kent or West Country/Cornwall. Looking for any suggestions on areas to stay. Would like to be within 20 mins (or less ideally) drive of a beach, and somewhere with good restaurants and without wishing to sound like a snob, not somewhere which is like Blackpool or Clacton. Dont particularly want to be in a town centre, so village location ideal, although would be nice to be 20 mins or so from a decent town.

Ideas??

Skeggie! Always a winner :D

I spent a lovely week in Combe Martin, North Devon, last easter. Dorset is also full of possibilities. You've got everything from rural, middle of nowhere sort of stuff to city hotels in Bournemouth, with everything in between.

If you end up in Cornwall, look out for the Healey's Cyder Farm. Lovely bottles of Rattler cyder, along with an Apple Brandy that could melt your dog tags.

A holiday in the UK. How quaint? ;)

I don't think I've ever taken a holiday in the UK. Not a proper holiday holiday. I've previously come back to this country to visit relatives when we lived overseas.

The nearest holiday we've had, and we've returned there a couple time because we loved it so much, was The Europe Hotel at Killarney overlooking the lake and Mcgillycuddy reeks. Probably our favourite hotel. Certainly the best hotel food we've experienced.

Simon,

Have a look at East Devon - used to live there and go back to Sidmouth often. Unspoilt and not the usual candyfloss and kiss me quick image.

That part of Dorset is also very pleasant.

PM me if you want more information.

I know it is not on your list but had you thought about the Isle of Wight?

We had a great week there a few years ago... I think I was writing a blog at the time... hang on....

Here it is - this is what we got up to if it is of any interest:

Norfolk Borads on a boat. great fun. Haven't done it for a few years, but might just slip a week in for May.
Good family break.
