I thought I'd have a look at how much an SU-800 costs to see if it would be worth getting one.

its £265 for the SU-800, why would anyone buy one at that price when you could buy an SB800 speedlight and do the same as the SU-800 but have an extra flashgun aswell.

Seems mad to me.

I've never worked that one out either, I know the SU-800 only emits ir and so can't contribute accidentally to the exposure, but I'm not a CLS user so maybe there is something else I'm missing.

they have prob done that so they make you buy the one that is cheaper for there own reason.

weather its they have made a cock up in manfacturing or just some crazy marketing scheme

Yea but it will take you all week to find out how to disable the flash inthe never ending menu

Agreeing on the daft pricing of the SU-800.

I use CLS quite a lot and I've never had a problem with the on-board flash contributing to the scene (as it is set to --) but someone was doing recently - and they got round it by fixing a piece of film to the on-board flash to quench the visible light - cheaper than that Nikon dubery that clips into the hotshoe that they make to do the same job
