I hope they find him ok, realy like his stuff :-(

Me too, but it doesn't look good.

I too hope for a good outcome but with that landscape and the relatively extreme temperatures it does not bode well bearing in mind the period he has been missing :(

He's been found, but not in a good way. :(
Not, it seems, officially confirmed/identified but by inference .....

One report says the body found was quite close to a beach area and another mentions a cave system.

It struck me that the news reports during the early hours of the searching was that it appeared to be somewhat haphazard and lacking in a co-ordinated plan. But it is all too easy to judge another countries methodology by the 'best/better in class'.

If/when(?) confirmed it will be a tragedy for his family & friends :(

yeah its bad news, looks like he nearly made it to safety but was in an area very hard to see
some one spotted the body from a boat

I do question why an intelligent guy like that would go on a walk without his phone, seems a bit weird to me?

IIRC the news bulletin a few hours back....

His PM reported as him dying at 4pm on the day of his disappearance from "natural causes".

my wife and I was chatting about this and we mainly head out as a pair with only one phone , why take two phones to go out for the day, it seems they did the same his phone was back at the hotel digs.

One of you may want to go back early, or split for some reason. A phone to me is essential - be it for photos, maps (especially where you don't know the area), money, contact or emergency (he may well have had a heart attack or something and MAY have been able to get help)

Particularly in a foreign country. If my wife and I or just one of us goes out anywhere we both make sure that we have our phones on us.

Indeed. We have our own friends and family and kids (who although most have both numbers) they would contact the closest person first. We often split up if we go places, I'll wander with the camera, she will browse some shops. As said photos, she often has a better signal than me, I have parking apps and OS subscription for maps. If she calls me, I can give her the street or pub I'm sat outside of which she can stick in Google maps and find me. Same when we've been out and she wants to go back to the car, pin where the cars parked and just follow the map. And that's before we get into personal social media, music, podcasts etc

Crazy not to go out with a phone each imo

I don't suppose it's possible that he had a phone or contract which didn't work abroad? Granted I'm unusual in that I have no interest what so ever in phones and I do dislike carrying them but I may not be the only one who's clueless and disinterested.

I try to remember to take a phone with me when I go out but I do sometimes forget. A few months ago me and Mrs WW found a man collapsed in the local cemetery and both of us had forgotten our phones, not unusual for me but very unusual for a woman maybe.

Anyway. RIP and thoughts to his loved ones at this most difficult time.

for us its not that way we don't split up when we go out and we are just not glued to it at all its just emergency use and for ordering table service in spoons :)

Possible heart attack,then.

No-one's mentioned the heat. It was 40ºC .In old money that's 104ºF. Heat stroke maybe ? There was a photo of him as he started his walk and he had a brolly up..re the sun. My wife was sad to hear the news and when she told me he was a health expert the 40ºC heat was the first thing that came into my mind. I did wonder why someone as qualified as he was and into health went on,what, by all accounts, was a difficult route in 40ºC even though it was only a mile he had to go.

I too wondered about the heat. If not directly responsible perhaps inducing other problems, eg as you say 'heart attack', and from what I've seen it was very challenging terrain.
