Right, a couple of months back, I got asked to post some photos on the forum for the resort I stayed in on holiday. I also posted a report to 28DL for one of the bars there.

Then out of the blue today, I recieved this PM.

I am the owner of Whispers. You do not have the right to put pictures of my business on the website without my permission. If you do not remove these images in 24 hours, I will report you to the police and find you anywhere you are. Understood?!
You better have!

Surely not? Where do I stand with that? As a good will gesture, I've asked for the thread to be deleted from 28DL and PM'd the guy back telling him this.

Depending on the location of said resort, they could enforce a no photography rule.. but they'd be hard pressed to retrospectively employ it with any success. Ignore and move on :)

How do you know he is the owner?

I'd not worry about it - and leave them as they are... let him come and find you and give you a jolly good telling off...

Its not like you broke in to the apartment / private property and selling these photographs for commercial gain.

I dont think you have to worry about anything..

I wouldnt worry about it, leave them up.

Ya know we'd all like to see the pictures now:lol:

Go on......let us have his email......and the photos. You know you want to....:naughty:

The police will not be able to do anything about it as you have committed no crime. I would suggest that from the tone of his email that that is a threat and therefore he HAS committed a crime. Send back a LOL message.

I agree with the above apart from the Lol message, I'd suggest in the light of violence and murder perpertrated by idiots after contact on the likes of Facebook and Ebay, that that constitutes a definite threat.

Ie why would he want to find you. I don't think it would be to ask for a copy of your pics.

Pass the email on to the police, and email him to say you've done so.

Nothing they can do especially as its editorial.

did you write a negative review?

I've had them taken down anyway, just incase. The report on 28DL wasn't exactly fantastic anyway, so its no loss to that community really! :p

Regards with what POAH said. No, I didn't write a bad review, just a report like all 28DL reports, a brief history of the bar etc. It's been closed for neigh on 5 years apparently.

Ah well, cheers for all your help guys!

I would have been tempted to post his response with the pics, let people know what type of person they would be dealing with, by visting his establishment.

The place has been closed for 5 years! Derelict! The sad thing is, this person might not even be the owner now that I've looked into it, so i've been had for a fool, and he's damaged the reputation of the club

yep thought so and ive also just checked on google "28 days later corfu" and seen the removed link. How did i know that was going to be the same one  of alllll the whispers...strange.

Do you know why it closed?
do you know/heard who the old owners are?
shame its still closed its ruining that beautiful place.

probably best to just remove them and walk away

No, I don't know why it closed, so in the report, I put something like

Closure: Reasons Unknown

So, like you say, we'll leave it at that

I think I may have found the pics on Google images, they all seem to link to 28DL.
Just search for Whispers Bar Arillas Corfu

Where do I stand with that?

You stand in Blighty having done nothing wrong, the owner stands in Corfu having made a rather silly threat. I really wouldn't worry.

I also knew which Whispers you were on about almost straight away. Been to Arillas myself a couple of years back.

Any chance you could send me a link to your other resort photo's? I'd quite like to have a gander if they are still up.

Edit: No need, found them on your Flickr!

Am i missing something here?
Seems like this place was empty, you entered without permission and had an encounter with the police. Is that all correct?

Also do not send him back a "LOL" message as some have advised as if the guy does find you and kicks seven shades out of you this thread on here with the "antagonise him advice" will pretty much mean he will not be convicted as you antagonised him, and this thread will be the proof.
The police had no right allowing you entry to the place either. And i can only assume he came to his senses and moved you on.
Even though the police allowed you entry you were probably still in the wrong as i doubt it is there call to make.
As to why they would have a key - Quite common so the police can check on the premises.

Someone CLEARLY hasnt been to Corfu and met the local police :lol:

probably shut down due to lack of visitors and the euro
a lot of places have felt the pinch abroad this year

Which ever way you look at it, you trespassed on private property to take the pictures.
I would assume he is concerned about more trespass with the details and photo's being published on 28 days later, cant blame him for that but the threatening tone was not needed.

Leave the pictures up and let him contact the police, they'll most lightly laugh at him, theres nothing much they can do. The pics were taken quite legally (I assume) Contact him and tell him your reporting him for threating behaviour, something that is a crime and see what he says then.
Edit it seems the place was closed at the time but you still entered with permission, the fact it wasn't the owner but the police but a slightly different spin on it.

The OP has already requested that the photos be removed, which they have.

Personally, if he wants to reply to the e-mail I don't think an inflammatory retaliation is the best course - sometimes a more passive-aggressive approach works best, not because I am a girl and we are (apparently) renowned for this kind of behaviour, but because a point can be out across without being overtly aggressive while still pi**ing off the recipient (and both genders are good at that!!) . So, something along the lines of 'I received your unsolicited and unwarranted e-mail and wish to inform you that I have removed the photographs in question merely as a gesture of goodwill and in no way accepting that I was in the wrong. Should you contact me in this tone again, I will have no hesitation in contacting the authorities and my legal advisers'. Or similar, I don't write this stuff day to day!

Of course, the other option is to just ignore it, accept that he may have been unhappy at you trespassing on his property and move on.....

Correct, i assume they are a law unto themselves then.
OP should have slipped them a few Euros then

ermm no:shake:

This place was shut down about 5 years ago and it wasnt due to the lack of visitors. The locals and local police can be very persuasive in helping you move home/business if what your doing doesnt fit in. Lovely place & lovely people but as anywhere a little rouge can appear from time to time and start spoiling it for others and thats sort of what happened here...loooooooong story but probably best if pics are removed and we all move on
