Yes
I had a trial version which I used to clone stuff out of the background and simple stuff like that. Then my computer went pear shape and all gone. :( Whats the cheapest way to get a replacement? Can I get a trial version with a cheap product ( i think the last one came with a printer or something). I looked on adobe site and nearly had kittens. I have only mastered about 3 of its functions:eek::D
Do mags ever give away a reduced version.?
Any advice gratefully recieved...
Alex

Tesco had a photo editing program, which I'm told is similar-ish to photoshop (only saw it once) I believe it was around a tenner. Don't know if it's still available though.

You could try GIMP, not up to Photoshop standards but its free

Another vote for Elements here, I'm sure Adobe do trials too.

The Gimp or Paint.net are both free downloads and can do cloning, layers, levels, resizing etc. etc.
The Gimp seems to be more popular but is a bit harder to use than Paint.net IMO.

The GIMP is far from simple! I find it more difficult to use than the full Photoshop!

Gimp is more difficult. I use it myself because it's free. I wouldn't compare paint.net to Gimp though, Gimp offers a lot more. I've used all 3 (well, just an old photoshop part of Adobe) and it kinda breaks down like this (money taken into consideration :)):

Best: Adobe Elements - but you have to pay

Middle range: Gimp - Difficult to use, and a bit buggy. But it is more than adequate for basic photo editing/cloning/layers/pretty much does a lot that Photoshop does... but not everything.

Bottom: Paint.net - Easy to use, feels quite similar to paintshop pro in ways. But doesn't really cut the mustard when you need that little extra style/filter/artistic edge.

It depends on how much you intend do do with it. If you need to do a lot of editing but have very little cash I say get Gimp for free. If you just need some basic editing/cloning/layers then use Paint.net for free. On the otherhand, photoshop elements is about £60/£70 and I've heard great stuff about it.

Hope that hasn't confused the matter more!

I'd also recommend Photoshop Elements. It's very capable, much easier to use than the full version of Photoshop (or GIMP) and relatively inexpensive. It also offers a very good grounding in Adobe's approach to photo editing, in case you ever want to upgrade. You can download a 30 day free trial version, which is fully functional.

Elements is cheap because its very basic, but maybe that's all you need. Older Photoshop versions can be picked up cheaply, CS2 is still very good.

I wouldn't say that Elements is very basic. Especially to a new user the full version of Photoshop CSx is overly complicated ;)

having never used photoshop before I decided to take the plunge and get it, I got elements 7 from play.com for 30 quid. Slowly getting the "feel" on how to use it!

Thanks Walsh, I have just ordered elements 7 from play.com. I currently use elements 5

& it is really good. At £30.00 7 is a great buy. thanks again for the info . regards colin

started off with Picasa (free) then downloaded Gimp (free) didn't get on with Gimp so I got Elements 7, trying to get a grips with Elements but very often resort back to Picasa as I'm still new to all this.

i also have a circus of software to use
mainly because i havent mastered photoshop
picassa has a half filter effect and for me good conversion to b>w with filters as well
so i have to do some pp in ps2 then save and finish in picassa
i think a bad move in many respects
i also employ photofiltre for certain things..
need to learn some more

Walk into Staples, find the software department. Pick up Photoshop Elements 8, walk to the counter, get out your wallet, pay, and your off! lol
