Hi folks, feeling a little down and lost the mojo a bit. Work has been @&#+ and I've just lost the drive for most things at the minute.

I run two businesses and it's just been manic recently and I've been questioning where I want to be in life.

I'm grateful for the work I do as it pays well but sometimes I wonder why I do it, as I actually don't get an awful lot of pleasure from it. I love the people I work with but hate the industry/ profession.

Maybe it's because I'm pushing 40, two kids, wife and so on and perhaps this is the start of my 'crisis'.

Anyway, I'm one week behind on my 52 as it's just been manic and I'm just so tired.

How do you folks cope when you're feeling a little flat?

To be honest, I've never found an answer to that. :(

Eventually, for most of us, it passes.

Adam , Make the most of it , sooner than expected you will be 66+ children gone and be old and worn out , Don't ask me how I know this ;)

I feel like this already. I'm a relatively active guy. I ran (pre covid) 10k and half marathons to raise money for charity (we support a few via my company) but during covid I fractured my left ankle and then, 6 months later, tripped and tore the ligaments in it again (walking the dog believe it not) so I've been slowly working on my fitness. I've managed 4 X 5.5 mile runs on the treadmill in the last week. So that's a positive:-)

I went from being a workaholic to a more or less 9-5 and then at the age of 49 I decided to leave it all. Since then I had holidays and relationships and married and my life is now completely different. These days my only problems are family related and do lead to a lot of upset but on the positive side I have no work related hassles or office politics to deal with.

So, my advice is to make a list of positives and negatives and things to change and what to change them too and things you'd like to do or achieve. Even if you can't do much about some things it may make things a bit clearer for you.

Good luck coming out of it.

Ring fence time. I've spent almost all my life working in care, often doing a lot more hours than I was paid for, but I tried to protect weekends as family time.

Get some 'me' time. I was quite active, but not very fit and took to cycling in my late 40s. I lost a lot of weight, became fitter than I had ever been, and saw a lot of benefits - however one of the best things was being on my own, in the countryside with a clear head.

It didn't necessarily impact a great deal on the family time either. At a weekend I could get out at 6, do 50 miles and be back just after 9 - as the others were having breakfast.

I've no real answer for you.
I have been in a similar work, life, hobby/leisure dilemma.
I just came to accept the way things are, but knew in time, things would change. I also came to cherish the times I did/do have to myself, to do the things I want to do. Photography has taken a back foot, but I have a good deal of time left in me (I'm 52) to take photos.

In the past I'd go for a run on my motorbike, but I no longer have a bike.
I now have an MX5 and it's great fun, and roof down in the sun my troubles disappear.....its 21 years old so wasn't expensive.....

Photography is my outlet, so if I start to feel a little flat I'll put a camera, a couple of lenses and a tripod in my backpack and take a hike. Works a treat every time!

Mine's going better than it has for years. There aren't even any warning lights on at the moment :D
