No
I'm in the market for a high end bridge and had virtually made mind mind set on Nikon P510 principally as I really want geotagging but following a converstaion today, I am now not so sure given the advice that the SX40HS is a better camera (overall) than the P510, but the deal breaker is gps.

I would be most disappointed to find that having made a purchase that Canon are in fact planning to introduce such a feature on the brilliant SX40.

So, my question returns...does anyone know if Canon are thinking of adding gps to its high end bridge in the near future?

Thanks

You could get an eye-fi geo card and save you waiting?

That is a great suggestion, but something me just wants a fully integrated solution so the Nikon has it at the moment.

On reflection, does anyone have a eye-fi geotagging that works? A quick Google search throws up loads of disappointed users.

I don't understand geotagging, what is it for?

Just seems like a bit of a gimmick to me.

Not having a go, just interested in why it is important to you

If you have a mobile phone with GPS, there are lots of good apps for tracking location and adding to photographs when transferring to a computer. I use http://gps4cam.com/ but there are many others.

But what is it for?
If I go for a walk along the Leeds Liverpool canal and take some photographs I know where I have been. What does geotagging do apart from saying you where stood here when you took a photograph.

I travel alot with work and want to display my memories along with their locations on a global map. Otherwise I agree, little point in geotagging any photographs when you know they are all taken in the same location

Why not just invest in a small gps handheld, log your position for each shoot? Add the info to the image later on. Your hardly going to forget where you shot each image unless your blindly shooting out of a car or train window.
Also, chances are you won't be the first person to have taken a photo where you have so there will be long lat info for the same images.
Reminds me of something i watched where keywords, gps data and the such were used to build street view type images of any given location, from flikr accounts i think.
I may have the name wrong but i think its called snapdragon

I've read somewhere there is a way of geotagging from a handheld gps, but as I'm really not that interested in it I didn't take too much notice I'm afraid. I was only looking as my brother was on about it, but searching on google should bring up the answers you need. No idea if Canon will release a high end compact or bridge camera with it built in, I'm sure they will follow the lead eventually. I've had a gps function on my phone for the past 2 years or so and never even switched it on.
