Some thoughts on the differences between human vision and what the camera sees as well as how we might compensate for those differences. I'd love to hear your thoughts: When What You See Is Not What You Get

Seeing is a skill fundamental to photography.
The link you gave only touches on the subject.

It is not so much that our eyes see things differently to a camera,
but that if we want to take effective photographs we need to understand the whole process. of seeing.
This is true of all art forms, including all forms of craft and design.
Probably the best way to learn to see is to examine and learn from all forms of art,
by going to as many exhibitions, museums, and displays as possible. covering the widest range as possible.

The Problems we have to solve as photographers, have been expressed in all other art forms down the ages.
Many different solutions have been found, and probably impressionism offers the closest representation to what most photographers are attempting to achieve. While sculptural forms, offer the best way to link lighting with texture and solid forms.
The understanding of the construction of Architectural (perspective) drawings, show the best way to link perspective and space, to point of view.

Seeing is both so easy that we can all do it from birth, but so difficult that few learn to do it effectively in producing images.

There are major differences between eyes and cameras.

Each cell on our retina has it's own "ISO" so we see a wider range of tonality than a camera can.

Our eyes continually refocus between near and far items but the camera only focuses at one distance.

Our eyes continually saccade, so our point of attention is continually changing. This happens even when we think we are concentrating on one thing.

Ok, I've learnt a new word today too. Thanks for that!
