Whatsapp low call volume

Hopefully there's a simple solution to this. I've just started using whatsapp but voice calls are virtually silent. It's as though the other person is whispering and they can't hear me either. Normal voice calls on the network are fine

I using a Moto G about 3 years old on Android 5.1

Any advice appreciated please
 
Is there a separate app volume control that you can adjust?
 
You could try turning the volume up during the call.....
