Morning all,

Last week at QPR I went over to my camera behind the goal at half time and was frustrated to see (or not as the case was) zero pictures taken. Grumbling I jogged back to the corner and picked some new batters as there was only 1 bar left. Still no joy. Lots of grumbling. More testing .. more scratching of head..... and then I spotted MY mistake ..

hmmm normally works better with the cables plugged in as well ... DOH !

So what's your worst DOH moment to date when shooting sports? Come on then, own up.

Oh and I almost had another one this morning .. for some reason all week I've had it in my head QPR today and West Ham tomorrow ... only last night I realised it was Spurs today ... I blame the ... actually it's just me clearly loving sitting on my a**e at QPR ..

cheers,

Nige

I'm relatively new to the world of sports, however, not wearing warm clothing for the first game was defo a really stupid idea. Sat there like a frozen booger for 90+ mins, I thought my legs were going to need CPR.

Did something very similar on my first shoot down at a freezing Stoop.

Nice to meet you on Saturday at Spurs, Nigel.

On one of my first sports shoots I forgot to take a stool and a monopod. I have never forgotten them since. Touch wood! Thigh muscles and fore arms were a bit sore to say the least!

Done that with a D3S and 400mm f/2.8

A mate of mine forgot his seat one match. I felt for the guys knees so much.

Put down my 1d on my rucksack and managed to activate the shutter on high speed for God knows how long, que hundreds/thousands of pictures of the materiel used by Lowe pro for their sacs!
Some of my best work??!!

Also had the ball land behind me and get caught up in my gear with the home side chasing the game, not helped by my stool on a backwards slope and not as nimble as I used to be........cue getting a bit of good natured stick from the crowd.

Got talking to a couple of away fans one of whom asked me to get his best side, "I'm a photographer not a bloody magician!" I replied, much to his mates amusement, he seemed to have a sense of humour failure initially! (Although he saw the funny side of it after).

My stool collapsed in front of the away supporters at Reading. Oh how they laughed. Long and short lens cameras and monopod flying all over the place.

At AFC Wimbledon I was walking around the back of the goal and the net caught on my monopod which was sticking out of my backpack. As I kept walking the net stretched and stretched without me realising until I was eventually pinged backwards onto my arse with my feet flying up into the air in front of everyone. Ah b*****ks!

At Chelsea my stool was too short for a Champions League match so I knelt on the kerb all match. Agghhh!

I was standing by the tunnel at Twickenham during pre-match warm up and a ball kicked about 4 miles up in the air by Farrell landed on my head much to the amusement of everyone.

Earlier in the season I was told to wrap up warm when I went to cover Grimsby vs Torquay 'as it's always cold in Grimsby'.

15 mins after the start of the match the sun comes out and it's steaming hot.

5 mins before half time, my laptop starts saying 'replace the battery'. Realised I had in the smaller 3rd party battery that I keep as a back-up. No probs, will swap it half time. Open Peli case 'err where is the battery'. Ah yes I remember taking it out last night after charging it, and yes it's still on the couch. Luckily I had one of the 2 goals and both celes.

So not laptop for the second half.

Bald head getting hotter and hotter. Moved down in front of the Torquay fans for the second half.

I keep a cut-off from an old towel in my Peli case. Popped it over said bald bonce to the laughterand amusment of the Tourquay fans, who were calling me The Taliban..

And tonight i had an absolute nightmare at Doncaster vs Notts County in the Johnstone's 'no papers give a t*ss about' Paint Trophy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Decided to shoot Notts County attack both halves.

First half uneventful.

Closed laptop and shifted in front of Notts County supporters 2nd half. I send one image just after half time and noticed it didn’t go and that my WiFi was showing orange rather than green.

Had a look and somehow it had switched from my 4G to the clubs WiFi.

Couldn’t reconnect to my WiFi.

Tried

1) Restarting Photo Mechanic,

2) Got MiFi out of Peli & restarted it to no avail.

3) Missed goal at other end that was then disallowed.

4) Restarted laptop.

5) Then 1D4 said it couldn’t read the card.

6) Popped in spare card from 1Dx but wouldn’t read it.

7) Had to get an SD card from the Peli.

8) Restarted laptop and eventually got reconnected.

9) Then while doing that I missed the goal at my end.

10) Got the cele only to realise I had somehow moved the dial and upped my shutter speed to 2000 !! Under League 1 lights. So had to bring the cele pics right up.

11) Laptop then stopped tethering to my cameras – first time since last season.

12) Had to get card reader out of laptop.

13) Then missed Notts County manager clapping the fans at the end of the match.

At least it was only the P*ss Pot Trophy but WTF !!

I should have learnt by now to put a change of clothes in my car. The amount of matches I have spent getting soaking wet in the rain then having to sit in freezing wet clothes on the drive home (or in Sunday league case, in the pub). Sunday was like ice with the freezing rain and arctic wind! Or get waterproofs that actually fit over my jeans might also be a good idea

The forum might lose a few pounds soon :p

You keep laughing sunshine........ ;)

Hit with a ball at Tannadice in Dundee while shooting an SPL match. Hood on my 70-200 smashed and I fell off my stool trying to salvage the pieces. Crowd cheers ensued

Doncaster Rovers v Millwall, Rovers scored to go 2-0 up and SPLATTTTTTTTTTT! one cup of Costa all over my back!
Did I flinch? no!
Did I look back? no!
Am I still alive? yes!
