I "joined" POTN last week to see what it was like, since then I have had nothing but spam. I know it's from there as I used a specific email address and it's stopped now that I've deleted that account...

We are talking in excess of 100 spams a day here !

Anyone else have the same problem ?

Steve

nope... never had any spam from there...

Been on there years with a specific email.. not one single spam.

Did your sig have the email address in it?

Did you create the email addr just for POTN? It could be that address was on the spammers list already...

I never put my email in a signature - that's just asking for trouble. The email address I used was my own personal domain (sjj dot co dot uk) preceded by "photo@". I has been active for a while with no problems what so ever, other than the odd viagra email which I think we all get.

Then a week or so ago I joined POTN and the flood gates opened. Yesterday I deleted the address, and everything is back to normal. What is interesting is that my ISP's spam filter seemed to miss most of it as well, but usually with these things you tend to get the same mails to a number of addresses, which wasn't happening. I have 4 or 5 other addresses on the back of that domain so I tend to see the "under the radar" stuff.

If you guys aren't experiencing it, maybe it was just a coincidence........

Steve

I think it could be a coincidence personally. I've been a member on there for donkeys and never had any spam. It would be internet suicide for any website to do that tbh.

Could it be that your personal site doesnt have a spam filter.. hence all the spam gets through and all the people here are not using personal website emails (Im assuming, if I'm wrong please correct me :D) but commercial ones e.g. NTLworld which do have spam filters by default..

Regards, James
