Yes
I got some velvia developed and scanned and the scans look terrible. A lot have come out like this:

Hard to tell on the teensy slides but they look ok. The blacks are black, not fuzzy red brown. Have they done auto-levels or some such on all my scans? Do all labs do this or can I get a straight, unaltered scan done anywhere?

If the slides look ok, its probably crappy scanning

Just a simple auto level brings the awesomeness that is Velvia screaming out.

What he said, crappy scanning.

Re scanning it is then. Now, to find somewhere that will do a good job of it...

"Club35" said "they" would develop my film - then digitally add to a CD - no prints

I could then copy to PC, edit and print myself

worth a call ?

To be honest I'd go back and complain about those scans with the original slides and ask why the scans are so drastically different. Their machines could have thought the slides were underexposed and tried to compensate perhaps?

I don't know of anywhere to recommend unfortunately as I got fed up enough to buy a scanner and just do it myself...

Try this place:

http://www.easyslidescanning.com/index.html

They look pretty good to me, use a Nikon Coolscan 5000 or 8000. Prices are 40p for TIFF with a Jpeg or 30p for just jpeg per slide/picture/negative frame on CD or DVD. Slides and negs are scanned at 4000dpi and prints 600dpi. Plus you can ask for 48 bit colour an/or software dust removal.

Plus 2 very good things:

  • You get a 10% discount/cash back if you mention on the order form your a member of TP!
  • They have a completely free 4 sample scans option, i.e 4 slides. All you have to pay for is the postage to them.

The only postage options shown on the form are pretty expensive special delivery etc but if you email them they will give you a price for ordinary 1st class

I'm going to be trying their sample service later this week, including some Velvia slides so I'll post back how good they are.

It was actually expired (knew that when I bought it though). I'd have put it down to that were it not for the fact that a few of the scans are absolutely fine. I'll see if the place that did them will re scan for nowt, then look in to the other places if they won't. Ta much :)
