Hi everyone whats the diffrence between photoshop elements and photoshop cs4 ???? sorry if this is a stupid question :)

I'm sure others will give a more comprehensive answer, but, in essence Elements is a cut down version of CS which is reflected in the price.
Elements offers far fewer editing options than CS.
However, you might find that Elements offers all that you require at a far more affordable price.

The huge price difference between the two... :shrug:

Oh and CS 4 does one or two more things mostly useful to professional togs and hugely experienced enthusiasts... ;)

:p

Features and price. CS4 is much more capable, and expensive. Elements is targeted towards the home/casual user. CS4 is for professionals who earn a living from using it and who use computers with oodles of RAM, hard drives and Eizo/NEC monitors.

Think Microsoft Works vs. Microsoft Word.

I melted the chip in my last PC using CS3 :)

There are more editing options but some I would not want to live without. I just love using selective curves on parts of an image to alter the tonality and I use actions and filters a lot too.

I would not want to be without it anymore but it IS very expensive.

When my PC died I'd have loved to get a mac but the photoshop CS4 and new filters would effectively have doubled the price!

Elements doesn't have

* The range of tools and features that work with high-bit images
* Adjustments: Color Balance, Match Color
* Layer Masks, Layer Comps, and Quick Mask mode
* Some adjustment layers (curves, color balance, selective color, channel mixer)
* CMYK and LAB color modes
* Combine multiple exposures to create high dynamic range (HDR) images
* Channels Palette
* Recording custom Actions (for batch processing)
* Smart Objects, Smart Guides
* Lens Blur Filter
* Vanishing Point Tool
* Pen tool and paths palette
* Editing History Log
* Text on a path, advanced text formatting
* Advanced Layer Style manipulation
* Advanced Color Management
* Advanced web features such as rollovers and slicing
* Customizable tool presets, keyboard shortcuts, menus and workspace

Those in red I can't work without!!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that you can change your license once a year, not sure if that just applies for a download though...

For changing the license, you have to upgrade to the newest version, which adds cost ;)

At almost 10x cheaper it is probably worth using Elements until you find you are reaching its limitations, spend the rest on a nice lens!
