What's the sharpest canon mount lens you've used?

No
So I'm just curious on this, I've read lots of different reviews of different lenses but personal experience is always more valuable. Some individual lenses will be different, but I wondered if there are a few stand out lenses the crop up again and again in the list.

For me, I've used quite a few different lenses but so far I'd say my sharpest lens is the Canon 10-22mm, closely followed by my Canon 135mm L

What's your experience?

My 100mm f2.8 Macro (the older one, not the newer one). Almost too sharp for portraits sometimes, I have to pull it back slightly in post processing.

Samyang 85mm f1.4

It has to be the 300mm F2.8 L IS or the 135 F2 prime

Funny how experiences vary as I'd rate the Canon 10-22mm as one of my most disappointing lenses. Mine was simply outclassed by the Sigma 12-24mm. I suppose sample variation could well be an issue.

I can't say that sharpness is something that I worry about that much and although I will take a look at sharpness when putting a new lens through its paces I'll be more interested in performance wide open and towards the edges.

I think that two lenses have impressed me, prime wise I'll choose the Sigma 85mm f1.4 and praise its performance wide open and say that IMVHO it's an outstanding lens and probably the best AF lens I've ever used. Zoom wise I'll pick the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8.

It can be a bit hit and miss I've found but more often than not its incredibly sharp for me. I may have just got a good one, or my standards are lower than yours :)

In order

300 2.8 IS ...wish I still had it.. but upped to the 400
135l f2 ..sharp as a pin at f2 ... hardly use it as the 70-200 mkII is close enough.. but its one of those lens i would never part with.
35m f2
400 f2.8 is
nifty 50
70-200 mkII

70-200 f/4 IS, just wish the stabliser whirring around wasn't so noisy, but can't have it all

My 60mm Macro and recently acquired 70-200 f4 IS. Both incredibly sharp

For me it's my old (non-IS) 300mm f/4L. It's old, with some marks on the body and some internal dust, but the sharpest and best lens I've owned (under just about any circumstances). It's the lens that's most made me regret moving to micro 4/3, although I guess I could still use it with an adapter.
The 200mm f/2.8L was no slouch either :)

canon 100mm f2.8L is macro, Also I do like the 85mm f1.8mm lens too

This is interesting, is the plastic nifty 50 really sharper than the tank built 70-200 mkii,

I've got 3 lenses that are all about the same. My 50 f1.4, 100 f2.8L macro and 70-200 f2.8L IS MkII are all razor sharp wide open, maybe the 70-200 is a tad sharper than the others but there's not much in it. The 50 f1.4 stopped down to f2.8 to be the same as the other two is just amazingly sharp.

I don't really pay alot of attention to sharpness but I am often a little taken back by the sharpness of the 85mm f1.8 a real bargain

For me, the Canon 85mm f/1.8 takes some beating, pound for pound. Love that lens.

If memory serves so far it's the Sigma 18-35mm, much sharper than a Canon 16-35mm mkII even wide open but I haven't used a Canon macro in a while.

From the lenses I've used:

Canon 300L 2.8 IS Mki
Canon 70-200 2.8 IS Mkii
Canon 85Lii
Sigma 85 1.4
Sigma 50-500 IS

The biggest surprise was always the Sigma 50-500. Amazingly sharp over the range. Most impressive was by far and away the 300L. You could spot the bits of food stuck between peoples teeth. A most desirable feature.

70-200 f2.8 IS MkII and/or 100 f2.8 L Macro
