when its unibond non-league club fleetwood town, coz i wanna try out football photography

I have been to fleetwood (highbury) http://kipax.fotopic.net/c768343.html
Hmmm that was in 2005 .. All those pics taken with a canon 10d and a sigma 70-200

Just contact the club first and ask them . thats it.. there is no licence system at unibond and north west counties level..

There used to be. I still have a media pass from around 2002/3 mebbe. But they stopped that years ago.

If you want to go pitchside you should have public liability cover in case a player crashes into you... so they can claim not you :)

cheers i dunno about puitch side to be honest, i just wanna try out sports tog, although im not sure on settings etc, to stop it blurring, coz im new to the techno side lol

Basic rule.. get your shutter speed as high as you can... A fast lens (f4 on a nice day or f2.8 on a dark or evening are best) will help up your shutter, Also up your iso where needed to also get better speed.. never be afraid of high iso in sports :)

What speed you need is... Fast as you can. What lens have you got?

i got a
cannon 18-55
Tameron 55-200
sigma 70-300

In anything but brighter light both your telephoto lenses will struggle when at the longest focal length. f5.6 is slow. You should be looking for shutter speeds of around 1/500th sec to ensure everything is sharp - no movement blur or camera shake.

High ISO will be your friend. Don't chimp too much as the LCD will just not show your slightly blurry images.

Use focus tracking if you can. I use a canon and use the * button to focus. I just hold my thum permanently on the button to track my target focus and take the shot with my forefinger on the shutter button.

If you try to use the shutter button you may find that if your subject is running by the time you lock focus and take the shot (albeit a very short period) the subject is now out of focus.

Get as close to the pitch as you can (if you are not actually pitchside).

Shoot action in short bursts unless you are confident you can predict what's happening.

Try not to move the camera too much. Hold it steady and pan at the same speed as your subject as best you can - especially at slower shutter speeds than 1/500th.

cheers at the moment im thinking of going to do it on saturday tho not sure lol i dunnno if i have the bottle yet lol

I have just done my first shoot at a football match.

I emailed the club first and they put me on the gate as press. I now supply their images free of charge for their programme and website. I actually had one of my photos published by the evening echo the next day a 3rd of the back page with my name credited!! Its brilliant you have to have a go.

Dont be scared but its ok to be nervous but expect the un expected. I turned up and their photographer had not shown up. I ended up in the centre circle taking the captain and officials line up shot, then the mascot shots plus match coverage. Prepare for anything. If you have a spare battery and memory card take them too.

I suggest having a Monopod (14.99 Jessops) as it helps alot. Take some business cards too as people and the players may want some shots.

Enjoy it too. People will stare at you and play up to the camera, especially the youths. Take photos of them to, catch the atmosphere. Its a great experience.

The club have now offered to give me free coach travel and expences to cover their away matches too.

Any thing can happen. I do them a favour and they are doing me one. Im getting the experience and photos published to get my Coca Cola League Press Pass (15 needed in total) and in return they are getting nice photos.

Good luck. If you need any support and advice be sure to PM me.

PS
Remember - Use Servo focus and do not use flash as they will whinge at you!!

Some brilliant points in posts before mine. Take some continuous capture shots in action zones I wish I had done that.

I just turned up on the day with my gear below and got thrown in at the deep end. If I can do it, you can :p
