Hi,
On the hunt for a lighting set up, whats the difference between the Gemini Esprit 500 and 500R please? Not sure whether they are different models or just a replacement for an older one.

Espirit is the Old gemini the 500R is 2 new models up :) I think it went

Espirit > Gemini > GeminiR > Gemini Pro

same light just less knobs and whistles

The Esprit has no digital read out and is an older model. The Gemini 500R can take the Bowens Pulsar Card set for wireless firing with the Pulsar Trigger

Doesn't the r stand for radio. I am sure profoto are the same by adding the r at the end basically meaning wireless flashing

Yes, they accept internal radio receiver cards (as above, either Pulsar or PW) as do the Pro heads

The R doesn't stand for radio, the R's are the same as the C's when it comes to the useage of the PW or Pulsar card.

I bought a pair of 500R's 2 weeks ago to go with a pair of older esprit heads. and spent a looooooong time studying the specs :D

I recently did the same - couldn't work out any difference between the 'Classic' and the 'R', so bought the Classics - they take the Pulsar cards which is all I was really interested in.

R's have a slightly faster recycle time compared to the C's and also a more accurate power adjustment 1/10th stop with the digital visual display.

That's about it really.

I'm using the new four that I bought together with some older Esprit 500's, hence my choice - no point having half the lights recharging fater than the old ones...
Having twelve lights means I can use the older lights for fill and background illumination while the newer ones do the triggering. Also means I don't have to move them around so much between sets. I can have a 'head & shoulders' portrait set permanently lit as well as a full-length & group set.
