Whats the best iPhone app for trekking/walking

I use endomundo does bikes. walking. Running tell you everything and a map of were you have been great app

I use Mapmyrun.

Brilliant app that covers walking, running, mountain biking, road cycling.

Its free as well which is a bonus. You can upgrade to get some extra features, but for what you want it to do, the free version should be perfect.

another vote here, ive gone pro...after all it was only 69p, you get other bits of info such as height gained/ lost etc

Buy an old fashioned paper map, fold it up neat and put it in a freezer bag to protect against rain.

Keep the battery on ya phone in case you need it. If you are considering exploring off track you may want that iPhone to make a call.

If you are gonna use map apps on ANY phone, carry a spare battery, you will need it!
I use Viewranger app for Android http://www.my.viewranger.com/
Brilliant App, moving maps, route record, route downloads.......well have a look for yourself.

Except you can't swap batteries on the op's iPhone! Good advice for all the others though.

There are cases that have a battery built in to it for the iPhone,

someone I know got one to track his location whilst skiing, only cost about a tenner including postage off the well know auction site, have a look at item 230826117376 to see

Agree entirely. I'm ex TA, so will be taking the explorer ordnance survey map and Silva compass, so shouldnt get lost hopefully :bonk: the app was for my partners iPhone so she can track where she's been, how high she is and how fast she is or isnt walking and then stick it all on Facebook :bang:

Another Viewranger fan. My friends really like the 'Buddy Beacon' which allows them to see just where I am in real(ish) time.

Easy way out of that is to buy a re-charger that plugs in to the mini usb.
About the same price as a spare battery anyway.
OR, get a decent phone! :D

There is ALWAYS a map & compass in the rucksack, but the phone app is REALLY good so gets used a lot.
Better to be safe than sorry I say. Things can go wrong with a phone, like when I dropped it in a burn coming off Lochnagar in the mist. The map & compass came out pretty quick. Of course, they are not much good if you don't know how to use them!

Get a solar charger and glue it to a hat

Sorted
