whats the best back drop material to use for a white background or dark

We use paper rolls at work. They light pretty well. We get our from Calumet but there are loads on the market.

Some people use vinyl, mainly for the floor.

Depends on the space. In studio possibly vinyl - harder wearing. In a small living room, possibly a hilite if space is very tight.

Paper is great too though.
