hello all.

just recently had my eos20d at H Lehmanns, had a full service, and new shutter mechanism fitted, cleaned checked etc.
the lot cost me £162.
paperwork to prove work done..
now i have chance of a eos1d mk1, which can complement my other two eos1d mk2's.
so i am going to sell it.
its boxed with charger, 2 batteries and paperwork and leads, i have a YXTM grip with it, and a canon 18-55 lens.

right the thing is before i list it on here, i need an idea of its value to sell.
come on you regulars what would you think is a good price to charge any TP member who is after one.
i am sure Canon bob will have a good idea.

i need to sell it, as i never won the lottery this week, so give me a clue for a price.
and please make it sensible.

I think the value of a 20D at the moment is around £200 mark (I payed £220 here about 4 months ago for a low mileage excellent condition one).
I think as a backup camera they are hard to beat for value.

well since mine came back its done about 300 shots only,with the new shutter mechanism.
as you say not to bad a camera, but i prefer my 1d series cameras far more.

The unfortunate thing is that you're unlikely to get much return on the repair cost....maybe a £25 premium for the new shutter and overhaul. Add in the grip and kit lens and I suspect you could get a nibble at the £270-280 mark.
Anyone who's serious has probably gone past the 20D by now or would certainly be looking at a 30D or 40D. People who are just moving in are simply going to use the model number and pixel count as the basis for judgement when buying. That limits you a little to people wanting a second body but the grip and kit lens aren't going to figure in their valuation so it'll be worth £225'ish to them. 30D's are going for around £300 ATM and the premium over the 20D is simply the model number as the 20D is every bit as good. It would be a good move for someone with a 350D or 400D (400D users are going to anguish about the lower pixel count though).
If it was mine, I'd split off the grip, kit lens and a battery to maximise the returns.

With the new models appearing so regularly I'd have though £200 -£250 would have been about right :(

maybe i should split it as the grip is no use to me.if i sell the body.
the 18-55 won't fit my eos1d mk2's.
or maybe just fleabay it, and take my chance.:wave:

I'd have thought about £200 for the body and £250 for the kit. To be honest I didn't notice the lens in there as well to start with so I'd definitely be looking for about £250.
 
I think Canon Bob has it right. I can give you the view of someone with little knowledge about the range.

I was looking for an upgrade from the 350D and got an unused 40D body for £450 from ebay, that was the going rate when I bought it last November though usually they were much older and without a one year canon warranty.(I got an ebay discount and cashback on top but I don't think that figures in the point I'm making)

I wouldn't have considered a 20D as I would have assumed it wasn't much of a step forward, perhaps a 30D if I'd been short of money.

I think you may well be better off selling all the bits separately.
