I have a Nikon D90. It's old, and has led a fairly hard life, but I've not really used it for a couple of years as I'm mostly mirrorless now.
Got it out for a play the other day, and the autofocus was off (shooting portraits focused on the eye at f4 the ear was perfectly sharp, the eye was soft). Tried it with a few lenses (Tamron 2.8 zooms, 50mm 1.8 prime) and it was the same.
So I did a bit of googling, found some sites about the adjustments you can make to the body (http://www.leongoodman.com/sergei/backfocus.htm) so I thought I'd give it a go. Managed to get the focus spot on on a tripod at 1.8. Brilliant!
Except no. As soon as I try to focus on anything further away, the back focus issue comes back. It seems like the further away the subject is the worse it gets, though I've not tested this properly.
Any idea why this might be happening? The body doesn't owe me anything, and I can still use it with live view (different focus method) so it's not the end of the world, but it's still annoying.
