No my strap, hand, insert something else isn't in the way. No it isn't my lens (i changed lens twice)...but when firing with ebay triggers and camera off flash i'm getting this annoying black line...sometimes at the bottom, sometimes at the side (depending which way i turn the cam). SHooting at 1/250...it's a crap shot...i'm just trying to demonstrate my problem.

Any ideas what this is?

Yup, the eBay triggers only sync up to 1/200th, hence the black line - lower the shutter speed and all will be well.

I agree. It's the edge of the focal plane shutter that you are seeing where the flash is not perfectly in time with your shutter speed. Easily fixed by keeping your shutter below 1/200.

oh good. ****. I thought they were 1.250....spose i shoulda just changed that. *ahem* how embarrasing.

Spent all evening electricuting myself to make them work, took them to pieces, sat there for hours with volt meter, tightened up connections...hey presto have two uber reliable receivers...don't think they are put togethor too carefully.

The Cactus triggers if thats what you mean sync at 1/800th with my D50 and SB800 and I don't get that line.

You need to bear in mind that when Canon quote a synch speed of 1/250th they assume that:
1. It's a Canon hotshoe flash
2. It's plugged directly into the hotshoe, not triggered by a radio trigger
3. You're going downhill with the wind behind you.

1 1/125th will probably be safe, anything faster is pointless anyway when shooting indoors,

I can shoot at 1/8,000 with my 580EX II being set off with my Cactus V4's?
