Hi, just grabbed a 600d for a video project an was wondering if there s any point looking at old manual focus slr film lenses or what dslr stuff you would recommend.

Complete noob at video.

Steve.

16-35mm f2.8L is a good lens.

any EF lens would work
personally it depends what you want!

do you want wide? do you want full time manual focus?
what aperture do yo need?

50mm f1.8 is cheap and great
the new 40mm STM EF-S is f/2.8 and silent focusing
if you are silently focusing then the tamron 17-50 is a decent cheaper wide angle with f/2.8
if you're going handheld look for something with stablisation.
this depends if the noise if picked up on your mic or not...

so many questions depending upon your project specifics

50mm f1.8 is cheap and great

I find it hard to video handheld with that lens though with the crop factor pushing it to 80 mm.

very true. most video have some sort of stablisation, in a rig, or perhaps on a tripod.
no detail was specified by the OP, not even budget.
All the (limited) video work I've done has been tripod and 50mm 1.4 or 70-200, and then handheld with the 24-70mm VC on my 2nd camera.

I think your right lads, its just turned up so I'll have a play with various stuff and see how it goes.
I was a bit daft asking the question really but luckily i have a shed load of old legacy glass to play with.

Cheers

Steve.
