Just curious guys,

I've had a client contact me as he has requested a 2 meter x .73 meter print (2 of) this is on canvas on a 38mm block frame. I've had a look online for quotes by competitors and it comes up around £350, I said to the guy that I would do them for £260 delivered as the delivery is tricky due to the length and the requirement of packaging to protect the material in the middle. Does that seem too steep at all? He's replied saying it's too expensive and he's going to look elsewhere.......

I have to factor in the time that it will take (roughly 2 hours at high quality to avoid smearing and drying), the frame alone will cost around £55 due to the custom sizing which I will order in, I will then need to varnish it in my spray booth to protect it so I feel the price is fair? The delivery quoted including insurance is £30 because of the dimensions and insurance required aswell :bonk:

£260 delivered sounds cheap to me..........................tell him to rev up and go!

Cheers! I just phoned the wife thinking am I going mad? He replied saying he can get them for £148 + VAT of which he left his email signature on one of the emails, it's a local sign company so it's obviously a cold call trying to see my prices. Bit annoyed as I hate being mislead!

Trade canvas prints do a 36" x 60" for £120 each. Just as a rough guide and they are one if the cheapest that produce excellent results. Plus you get 10% discount if you are a TP memeber.

Also from what I can gather no one varnishes them anymore, takes too long to dry and time is money.

Cheers Steve, I'll keep that in mind as I charge a bit less than that! I base my prices on time and the roll used otherwise there's too much waste to take into account!
The 2M print is just a strange one, I've done a 3 meter print for a local gallery and for that I charged around £350 so I seriously need to think about my prices! (all printed on a 60 inch Z6200)

I personally wouldn't charge any less, just stick to your prices I doubt they'll find quality anywhere cheaper.

Exactly, there are some very good companies about and then there are some that don't produce good prints, I've had a few customers who's prints have had running ink due to them not being varnished (i.e. a print in a kitchen) and also blowing up an image to the point that the pixels are blocks, if the customers' image is too small I won't bother printing it as that will just give me more negative feedback from a professional point of view!

We've just printed and stretched a canvas for a customer who brought an image in of his dog that is now sadly deceased.

Image size on his phone was 560pixels on the long side.
Looks a bit pixelated but the only image they had and they are over the moon.

Depends on the size though Brian, I don't mind a bit of interpolation on prints but if it's too much I will tell the customer there is no point as it will look like an 8 bit cartoon etc!
